(Phnom Penh): According to Mr. Heang Sotheayut, Director General of Technology and Public Relations of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, spokesman for the Ministry, this morning, January 2, 2024 stated that for 3 days during the New Year 2024, there are more than 80,000 vehicles crossed the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway that on December 30, 2023, there were 21,900 vehicles passing through, on December 31, 2023, there were 28,900 vehicles passing through and on January 1, 2024, there were 33,100 vehicles passing through.
Mr. Sotheayut added that the number of vehicles crossing the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway on the occasion of the New Year 2024 is more than in 2023. Traffic on the expressway during the New Year, there are traffic jams at checkpoints if Sihanoukville and Phnom Penh. There are two reasons for this congestion:
1)vehicle owners do not use ETC cards as a convenient way to cross the checkout counter and continue to use the on-site payment option.
2)some vehicle owners do not yet understand the use of ETC lanes and regular payment lanes. Some vehicle owners do not have an ETC deduction, but instead enter the ETC lane.
The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) as well as the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway Management Company have been widely publicized regarding the transit route as well as the use of the ETC card. Mr. Sotheayut called on vehicle owners to understand the use of ETC or ANPR, a technology prepaid system that facilitates quick and hassle-free transit travel.
The following is how to use the lane crossing the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway toll booth: The Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway entrance is divided into three lanes as follows:
1) The ETC lane is a priority port with an automatic opening and closing barrier on the far left with the ETC sign. To use, you must: Register to use the OBU device at the ETC center or location designated by the Ministry and top up the license plate before use.
2) ANPR trajectory is a priority gateway for simple entry and exit. All you have to do is enter the balance on the license plate first and go in and out with the ANPR sign. Using this route does not require taking a card and using cash, you just enter the balance into the license plate.
3) MTC route requires card and cash at the exit. In case of heavy traffic, you may face a long wait at the exit.
The Ministry encourages people to participate in the use of ETC and ANPR as much as possible, especially the use of modern digital technology by adding prepaid to the license plate to reduce the time to pay cash at the counter.
You need to know where your car can go in and out according to the instructions above. However, if you choose to use the ETC or ANPR route, please enter the balance into the vehicle ID plate first through the Mobile Banking application of the financial institution and the partner bank of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, which is true. It saves time and provides convenience.
