Cambodia Sets out the Direction to Push Clean Energy Consumption to Reach 70% by 2030

On December 16, 2023, in the meeting between SamdechMoha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia and Mr. Masayuki Hyodo, President and Chief Executive Officerat the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation on December 16-18, 2023 in Tokyo, Japan, Samdech Thipadei confirmed the Royal Government of Cambodia has payed attention to ensure the sustainability of the business and investment atmosphere through setting out the political policies, implementation mechanisms and new newlegal frameworks along with the necessary support infrastructures to provide favourable encouragement, transparency, attractive for local and foreign investors.

Samdech Thipadei added that Cambodia is currently using up to 62% of clean energy, a leading level in the region, with the decision to completely stop constructing coal-fired power plants, as well as set out a goal to push the usage of clean energy up to 70% by 2030.

In the meeting, Mr. Masayuki Hyodo expressed his thanks to Samdech Thipadei for taking time to allow him and his colleagues to pay a courtesy call and give information on investment activities in both Cambodia and ASEAN in various sectors including electronics manufacturing, energy, infrastructures, broadcasting and digital, etc.
